Besides restaurants and shopping excursions, Stone Harbor offers the following attractions: The Wetlands Institute, the Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary, and a museum. The Wetlands Institute promotes the conservation and preservation of coastal ecosystems through education that is fun and intriguing for those of any age. Designated beaches allow for swimming, rafting, and surfboards. Everyone who is 12 and over must wear a purchased beach tag beginning on the Saturday before Memorial Day through Labor Day. Leashed dogs are allowed on Stone Harbor's beaches between 7:00 PM and sunset.

For the community, there are numerous activities ranging from a summertime farmer's market on Saturdays to Zumba classes to Monday night Family Nights at the borough's fire house. Staying fit and trim isn't difficult with various fitness classes available to the public. Stone Harbor also has tennis courts, a soccer field, playgrounds, a jogging trail, courts for bocce ball, basketball courts, and more.

Students in kindergarten through the fourth grade attend school in Avalon, while all fifth through eighth grade students in both towns attend classes in Stone Harbor. For high school, Stone Harbor's children attend classes in Middle Township. Stone Harbor is located in the 2nd Congressional district and the state's 1st legislative district. The local government consists of a mayor and six council members. The mayor is elected by voters to a four-year term. The council members serve three-year terms on a staggered basis.
